Hello {{first_name | Reader}},
Your accounting software keeps offering to match your bank transactions with AI. One click and a month of reconciling is done. The real question is whether you would trust what it matched.
✍️ Can I trust AI with my accounts?
On Xero's own feedback forum, one user switched on AI auto-reconcile for a Stripe feed, then had to turn it off and reverse all its work. Their verdict: "I won't trust it again."
The answer is a control every bank uses, and it costs you about 15 minutes a week. This week's post explains it, plus what to hand over to AI, what to keep, and 7 checks before you switch anything on.
📰 Story worth watching
On 29 September, OpenAI launched dots: always-on ChatGPT agents with their own cloud computer. You give a dot a goal and it keeps working in the background, in ChatGPT, Slack or Teams, while you get on with your day.
The part that matters for you is control. For each type of action you choose: take action without asking, take action if pre-approved, ask first, or hand it back to you. OpenAI's own help page adds a line worth reading twice: "Your dot can make mistakes, including when following your rules."
For now the Pro rollout excludes the UK. When it arrives, the rule from this week's post applies. Let it prepare. You sign off.
That's it for this week.
